The annual San Homecoming, hosted by San Foundation on Saturday 20th August, saw over 75 past and present members of the San community reunite.
Beginning with a Sabbath School and a Worship Service, the event culminated in a dinner at the Fox Valley Community Centre.
Guests enjoyed interviews including, according to former AHCL Nursing Executive Officer Annette Baldwin, Dr Chester Kuma's brilliant address "Our hands - His touch". Annette said it was both powerful and inspiring as Dr Kuma highlighted all the functions that hands may be used for, and his address was particularly appreciated by one of the groups as that was their motto when they graduated over 40 years ago.
Reminiscing was the order of the day, including during the presentation by former Mission pilot Pastor Colin Winch whose 'mastery of language brought his stories alive'.
Many attendees were in awe of the beautiful display cabinet (pictured right) donated by former Hospital Superintendent Dr Bert Clifford handcrafted from timber he saved from the balustrade of the original 1903 Sanitarium building. Knowledgeable San Musuem curator Michael Rigby was on hand during Musuem tours to answer questions as visitors reminisced about the photos, uniforms, medical instruments and other memorabilia on display.
Congratulations go to:
- Brett Goods, SAH General Manager, who received the Chairman's Commendation
- Geena-Rose Burton, Registered Nurse, Cardiothoracic Surgical Ward for being awarded the $1,000 Alumni Association Scholarship
- Claude Douglass Judd (pictured right with Chairman Dr Leon Clark), who received a citation celebrating his 75 years since graduating from the San in 1941 (pictured top).
